Privacy policy

Data used by the app

AstroSky stores the names and coordinates of up to three locations locally on your device. You can select a place through Android place search, use foreground approximate or precise phone location, or enter coordinates manually. The selected location source and optional GPS accuracy are also stored locally. If you enable forecast alerts, the selected observing modes, score threshold, duration threshold, and last announced forecast-window identifier are also stored locally.

The app also saves your preferred observing mode, favorite target identifiers and first-run setup progress locally. Your app language choice is managed through Android or the app's local language settings. These preferences are not sent to the developer.

Notifications and background checks

Forecast alerts are generated locally through Android's notification system. Android may run an approximately 30-minute background check for enabled saved locations. AstroSky does not use remote push messaging, email, accounts, or a developer-operated notification server. Background checks use the same direct MET Norway request and 30-minute per-location cache described below.

Home-screen widget

If you add any AstroSky widgets, the app stores a local snapshot of the active saved location name, observing-mode scores, observing window and weather-fetch time. The larger widget also displays up to eight forecast hours using your preferred observing mode. All widget sizes share the same saved location, language and forecast data. Android's launcher displays this information on your home screen. A shared, approximately 30-minute update is scheduled while widgets are installed; Android may delay background work. Removing the last AstroSky widget stops the widget's periodic updates, but does not delete saved app data or disable separately enabled forecast alerts.

Data sent off the device

Place-search text may be processed by the geocoding service configured by your Android device to return matching cities or villages. AstroSky does not keep a search history; text may remain in the current form or Android's saved screen state. Only a place you select is added to your saved locations. To retrieve a point forecast, AstroSky sends the selected latitude and longitude, rounded to four decimal places, directly to the MET Norway Locationforecast API over HTTPS. MET Norway also receives the IP address inherent in an internet request and the AstroSky application identifier in the User-Agent header. MET Norway describes its own processing in its Terms of Service.

What AstroSky does not collect

AstroSky has no user accounts, advertising, analytics, tracking SDKs or developer-operated backend. Dan Harabagiu does not receive your coordinates, forecast requests or usage history from the app.

Retention and deletion

Saved location names, coordinates, alert settings and the latest widget snapshot remain in the app's private on-device preferences until you edit or remove them, or the app's storage is cleared or uninstalled. The latest forecast for each point is stored privately to enforce a 30-minute minimum update interval and provide a limited offline fallback. Forecast data and alert history are removed when app storage is cleared or the app is uninstalled.

Favorite targets, preferred observing mode and setup progress remain locally until changed or app storage is cleared. Older settings files may be retained privately as migration recovery copies. Clearing app storage or uninstalling removes these copies as well. AstroSky disables Android app-data backup; it does not provide cloud synchronization.

Security and children

Forecast traffic uses HTTPS. AstroSky is a specialist observing-planning utility and is not directed to children.
